While the term ‘other hotel’ is not legally defined, it is used by administrative authorities for convenience of their work. Therefore, the criteria are not officially disclosed, but it is presumed that lodging establishments with 30 or more rooms that are not tourist hotels are classified as other hotels, those with 10 to 30 rooms as yeogwans, and those with shared bathrooms as yeoinsuk.
Of course, in managing the various types of lodging establishments established and operated under the fragmented laws, a sort of wildcard term is necessary. However, using such an unofficial term in public statistics or related reports can lead to confusion, resulting in the dissemination of incorrect information interpreted differently by different people.
Lobin Co. uses the term ‘other hotel’ to collectively refer to floating hotels, traditional hotels, family hotels, hostels, small hotels, and medical hotels, excluding tourist hotels, as per the subcategories of the hotel pursuant to the Tourism Promotion Act. Accordingly, data are aggregated and processed based on such definition.
